Lacoste 是由法國傳奇網球選手 René Lacoste 於1933年創立的品牌。品牌的象徵鱷魚標誌，源自於René Lacoste的綽號「le crocodile」，意指他在網球場上不輕易放棄他的獵物，René Lacoste 的朋友畫給他一隻鱷魚的圖案，他便將這個圖案繡在球衣上，此為鱷魚標誌的由來。當時的網球服裝多為白色長袖襯衫與長褲，不利於運動表現，品牌為了提升舒適性與功能性，開發出具有彈性、短袖且帶有羅紋領口的針織衫，這正是現今廣受歡迎的Lacoste POLO衫的起源。
